Passing of Founder and CEO

October 29, 2012

Sandy, Utah—October 29, 2012—A remarkable educator, business leader, visionary, and American patriot died October 26 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Challenger School founder and CEO, Barbara B. Baker, began her school in 1963 with a single classroom and the unwavering conviction that all children could achieve academic excellence. She grew her business to encompass 22 campuses and more than 1,000 employees in Utah, California, Nevada, Idaho, and Texas.

Barbara was passionate about music; America’s founding principles; and teaching children to think, speak, and write with clarity, precision, and independence.

For nearly fifty years, she worked to develop and hone a curriculum and a methodology that challenged children from preschool through eighth grade to find joy, self-worth, and independence through achievement.

Barbara Baker’s legacy includes more than 100,000 children who have benefited from a Challenger education and the selection and development of a leadership team committed to ensuring the integrity and continuity of Challenger School for future generations.
